What is Scalp Psoriasis?

Scalp Psoriasis is a skin and scalp condition very similar to Seborrheic Dermatitis. I mentioned the two conditions in a previous article, but now let's elaborate more on these conditions.

Scalp Psoriasis

Scalp Psoriasis is a condition where the skin cells grow too quickly on the scalp and causes itchiness, flakiness of the scalp, and red bumps and irritation. The dry flakiness caused by scalp psoriasis looks white and bit powdery.

People who suffer from Scalp Psoriasis may very well also have Psoriasis on other parts of their bodies such as on the legs, behind the knees and elbows, and on the neck.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic Dermatitis symptoms are much the same as Scalp Psoriasis. The difference is where Scalp Psoriasis tends to be a dry and crusty flakiness, Seborrheic Dermatitis tends to cause your scalp to be greasy with yellow and/or white scales.

Available Over the Counter Treatments for Both Scalp Conditions

*As always, consult your doctor if you believe your conditions are of concern and read the warning labels on products before use.

Common OTC treatments are:
  • Pyrithione Zinc (Head & Shoulders)
  • Selenium Sulfide (Selsun Blue)
  • Salicylic Acid (Denorex, Ionil)
  • Ketoconazole (Nizoral Ad)
  • Tar (Neutrogena T-Gel)
  • Sulfur & Salicylic Acid Combination (Meted)

What is Toppik?

Toppik is a cosmetic solution for people suffering from hair loss and/or thinning hair. Toppik gives you the appearance of a thicker and fuller head of hair that you will be able to both see and feel.

What is Toppik Made of?

Toppik is comprised of little microfiber synthetic hairs that blend in with the hair on your head. Because Toppik's hairs mixes in with your own hair, you will actually be able to see and feel a great head of hair as opposed to the other types of cosmetic hair stuff that only spray paints your head.

What are Benefits of Toppik?

Applying and using Toppik is relative painless and inexpensive. What would you rather choose: Toppik or hair implants?

Rain or shine, you'll be able to use Toppik as it is somewhat waterproof (you're able to wear it in the rain, but it is designed to wash off in the shower) and will not smear on you and cause embarrassment.

Is Toppik Safe to Use?

According to Folica Beauty Store, Toppik is extremely safe and effective, and even doctor recommended. You are even able to use Toppik to cover up the gastly scabs after a hair transplant surgery.

There are dozens of reviews from happy and satisfied customers who have NOT complained of Toppik scalp irritation or a worry of Toppik scalp cancer.

Why You Have Itchy Scalp

Well, there are other scalp concerns than the 'myths' and non-existent conditions of Toppik scalp irritation and Toppik scalp cancer.

Many are concerned, and at the same time embarrassed, by an itchy scalp. If you are suffering from this annoying condition, you are probably wondering what is the cause of the itchiness.

Here are a few causes of an itchy scalp (and of course, as usual ALWAYS consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis of any medical condition).

5 Causes of an Itchy Scalp

1) Lice

A common cause for an itchy scalp, especially among children, is head lice. So, check your head for these nasty critters and their eggs or nits.

Red bumps on your scalp near your ears or nape of your neck and shiny 'dandruff' (which are actually nits) are symptoms of an infested scalp.

Lice are highly contagious and annoying, so get rid of them as quickly as possible.

2) Scalp Psoriasis

This skin condition is more common than you think, and is caused when skin cells are overly produced on the scalp and causes scaling and lesions.

This condition can extend to other parts of your body, but is very treatable. Scalp psoriasis (if not a critical case) can be treated with tar and salicylic acid products among other items.

3) Stress

Stress can cause a number of physical and mental problems, and an itchy scalp is one of them. Dry scalp is often caused by stress from mental over stimulation, physical exertion, work, play, and life in general.

4) Seborrheic Dermatitis

This is a skin condition that very commonly affects the scalp and causes excessive itching and dandruff.

It isn't known what causes seborrheic dermatitis exactly, but this scalp condition is usually treatable with over-the-counter shampoo and hair and scalp products such as Selsun Blue, Head & Shoulders, Meted, and Scalpacin.

5) Eczema

This is a rather broad skin condition term that can refer to a number of rashes and allergic reactions appearing on the skin. Eczema is characterized by patchy looking dry and red irritations on the skin. This is a very irritable, itchy, and sometimes painful skin condition that affects the scalp.

For treatment of eczema, you should consult your doctor.
